The Government of India released provisional Goods and Services Tax (GST) collection data for April 2026, reflecting steady growth in revenue mobilisation. Total gross GST collections rose to ₹2,42,702 crore, marking an 8.7% increase compared to April 2025, driven primarily by a significant 25.8% surge in import-related IGST revenues. Domestic GST collections recorded a moderate growth of 4.3%, while total refunds increased by 19.3%, indicating improved refund processing efficiency. Net GST revenue stood at ₹2,10,909 crore, registering a 7.3% rise year-on-year. State-wise data shows varied growth trends, with major states like Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Gujarat contributing significantly to collections. Post-settlement SGST figures also demonstrated notable increases across states, highlighting effective revenue distribution mechanisms. The data underscores strong indirect tax performance supported by economic activity and compliance, while also reflecting enhanced refund mechanisms and buoyant import-driven tax inflows.
