Notification No. 14/2011-Customs, New Delhi, the 1st March, 2011 G.S.R. (E).- In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 25 of the Customs Act, 1962 (52 of 1962), the Central Government, on being satisfied that it is necessary in the public interest so to do, hereby makes the following further amendments in the notification of the Government of India in the Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue), No. 25/1999-Customs, dated the 28th February, 1999, published in the Gazette of India, Extraordinary vide number G.S.R.161(E), dated the 28th February, 1999, namely:-
Water Supply Project includes a water pumping station, water storage facility (reservoir) and water treatment plant for desalination, demineralization or purification of water or for carrying out any similar process or processes intended to make the water fit for agriculture or industrial use.”
The issue regarding furnishing of a cash security equal to 2% of the CIF value of the goods sought to be imported under Project Import has further been examined by the Board. In view of the reduction in import duty and the inordinate delay associated with finalisation of the said project imports, it has been decided to do away with the practice of taking cash security.
(a) construction of a building or a civil structure or a part thereof; or (b) laying of foundation or making of structures for support of capital goods, except for the provision of any taxable service specified in sub-clauses (zn), (zzl), (zzm), (zzq), (zzzh) and (zzzza) of clause (105) of section 65 of the Finance Act
Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee today said the Government proposes to introduce the Constitution Amendment Bill in the current session to pave the way for introduction of the long-awaited Goods and Services Tax (GST) regime. “I propose to introduce the constitution amendment bill in this session of Parliament,” Mukherjee said in his Budget speech 2011-12.
The Companies Bill 2009, which seeks to replace a half-a-century-old Act, will be presented in Parliament in the ongoing Budget session, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee today said. The new Companies Bill, which was tabled in the backdrop of the Rs 14,000 crore Satyam fraud, promises greater shareholder democracy and stricter corporate governance norms.
The government today proposed to levy Minimum Alternate Tax (MAT) of 18.5 per cent on the book profits of Special Economic Zone developers and units, which was termed as a ‘setback’ by the players. Both the developers as well as units in the tax free enclaves were earlier exempted from MAT under Section 115 JB of the Income Tax Act.
With a view to encourage power generation and reduce transmission and distribution losses Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee today extended the tax holiday for the power sector by one more year till March 31, 2012. The extension of tax break is part of the government’s efforts to scale up the country’s power generation capacity to meet the growing needs.
The 2011-12 Budget has failed to bring cheer to the Indian IT sector as Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee did not make any major announcements to boost the segment. IT companies were batting for reduced tax rates and continuation of sops under the STPI to help the industry, which is seeing a recovery in demand after almost two years of slowdown.
