It was decided that in all cases of covid related imports facilitated by Ministry of External Affairs and/ or imported by Indian Red Cross society, permissions/ licences/ authorizations required from other Government Department/Agencies prior to the clearance of goods, if any, would be deemed to have been given. In other words, such cases need not be referred to those agencies or the requirement may be suitably waived.

There has been encouraging news from Kolkata on the trade facilitation front. On the 7th of April, our officers cleared the second riverine protocol route for exports from Bangladesh to India. A barge laden with 40,000 cartons of food products started its journey from Palash in Bangladesh and reached Kolkata in eight days after travelling around 710 Kms on the inland waterway.
A few changes on the Customs and GST side are to come into effect shortly on the dates indicated in the Finance Act 2021 (no 13 of 2021) and in some others are independently slated to begin from lst of April, 2021. They have been publicized through our social media handles. However, field formations and DGTS should sensitize and hand hold the trade about the implementation of these changes, during this week. IT systems has also been geared up to incorporate and adopt the changes to make this transition smooth.
The week gone by had begun on a positive note. A Departmental Screening Committee meeting was held for ad-hoc promotions from the grade of Senior Translator to the grade of Assistant Director (Official Language). Due to this, 14 officers are likely to get promoted as AD (OL).
The week also saw the CGST Gandhinagar Commissionerate unearth a huge case involving a web of 68 fake firms issuing invoices to claim fraudulent GST Input Tax Credit of Rs. 720 crore without the supply of goods. The CGST East Delhi Commissionerate too made two big cases relating to fake invoices.
