The assessing officers undergo in-depth training on direct tax at the induction stage at National Academy of Direct Taxes, Nagpur (NADT) and the seven subordinate Direct Taxes Regional Training Institutes (DTRTIs) located across the country and on indirect tax at National Academy for Customs, Excise and Narcotics, Faridabad and its nine Regional Training Institutes located at Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Vadodara, Patna and Kanpur. They also undergo various refresher courses conducted by NADT and DTRTIs from time to time.

The Government is focusing on increasing use of Information Technology for detection of evasion of tax. The Government also receives information on tax evasion from public at large through letters, e-mails, reports in media etc. the Government grants rewards to persons who provide information useful for detection of tax evasion and realization of taxes subject to certain guidelines issued by Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) and Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).
Tax Payers’ Lounge at India International Trade Fair, 2012 was set up by the Directorate of Income Tax (PR, PP & OL), New Delhi to educate the taxpayers about tax laws & procedures, inform them about the taxpayer services launched by the Department to make compliance to tax laws easy, and to inculcate a tax payment as a value norm to the young adults and school children.
Assessment officers of many charges have conveyed to the Board that they are not being provided any secretarial assistance or other office help and they are left with no option but to make private arrangement to finalise their assessment orders and other time bound matters.
Information received from the Government of France has been analysed and investigations into the information have been undertaken by the different jurisdictional authorities under the Income-tax Act, 1961. Investigations in the matter are under progress including with the foreign tax authorities to obtain more information with regard to the reported account holders.
