Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) has addressed representations from various Central Tax Zones regarding the need to revise and reorganize the territorial jurisdictions of Central Tax Commissionerates (CGST). Instead of handling these requests individually, CBIC plans a comprehensive review for all field formations under its Central Tax Zones. Principal Chief/Chief Commissioners have been directed to assess their zones’ needs and submit detailed proposals justifying the required changes by March 31, 2025. These proposals should be emailed to gst-cbec@gov.in, with a copy to the Deputy Commissioner (GST), Prashant Sharma. This initiative, approved by the CBIC Chairman, aims to streamline administrative efficiency and align jurisdictional structures across zones.

OFFICE MEMORANDUM

Subject: Reorganisation of territorial jurisdiction of Central Tax Commissionerates under CBIC in all Central Tax Zones

2. In this regard it has been decided that instead of revising and reorganising the territorial jurisdiction of the Central Tax Commissionerates (CGST) in a piecemeal manner, an assessment of such requirements can be done for all the field formations (Central Tax Commissionerates) under all the Central Tax Zones of Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs, which shall then be put up to Hon’ble Finance Minister in a comprehensive manner.

3. Thus, it is requested that Pr. Chief/Chief Commissioners of all Central CGST Zones may assess such requirement for revising and reorganising the territorial jurisdiction of the Central Tax Commissionerates (CGST) under their Zones and may please send the proposals regarding such revision and reorganisation, specifically highlighting the justification and reasons for the required changes. to this office latest by 31st March 2025. The proposals may be sent via e-mail to gst-cbec@gov.in along with a copy to PrashantSharma.irs@gov.in.

4. This issues with the approval of Chairman (CBIC).
