IFRS — issued by International Accounting Standards Board — is acknowledged by 113 countries. This is ICAI’s first list and more companies would be added on its next list, sources said. The first list comprises 439 companies. It includes BSE-Sensex companies, NSE-Nifty companies, companies that have raised debt of over $50 million abroad, financial sector companies, publicly accountable companies (with total borrowings of over Rs 1,000 crore), Indian subsidiaries of foreign companies that have implemented IFRS at the parent company and companies outside these categories with capital of over $50 million abroad.
With lessons from the devastating fire that gutted the IOC depot here at the Sitapura industrial area, the company has decided to begin a safety audit of all its operating depots, terminals and plants in the country. According to N Srikumar, executive director, corporate communication, IOC, the safety and security audit would cover all the 300-plus locations nationwide of the IOC.
The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) had issued a letter dated 20 August 2009 requiring all foreign nationals in India holding Business Visa (BV) and working on project/ contract based assignments in India to return to their home countries on expiry of their BV or by 30 September 2009, whichever is earlier. This deadline was subsequently extended to 31 October 2009 by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA).

This seems to be the biggest slip by an Indian financial institution which is supposed to maintain heightened vigilance on suspicious and high-value cash transactions. At least Rs 640 crore was deposited in cash by one of the alleged front companies of former Jharkhand CM Madhu Koda in a state-owned bank in Mumbai. The bank failed to trigger an alert to countless intelligence agencies tasked to keep a tab.
SSI Exemption is granted subject to fulfillment of certain conditions which are prescribed in Notification no. 8/2003. One of the conditions prescribed is that the SSI exemption will not be applicable to specified goods bearing a brand name or trade name of another person, irrespective of the fact whether such brand name was registered or not contained in Para 4 of the Notification. However, exceptions are also provided to this condition such as goods cleared as ‘original equipment’, goods bearing brand name or trade name of KVIC or if such goods were manufactured in factory located in rural area.
The finance minister could approve foreign investments of up to Rs 1,200 crore (Rs 12 billion), without going to the Cabinet, if a proposal of the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion to fast-track clearance of foreign direct investment is accepted.

The nation’s premier audit body Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has constituted a high-level team for auditing Reliance Industries’ (RIL) expenses on eastern offshore KG D-6 fields and the exercise will begin this month. The CAG, which has been asked to do special audit of not only RIL but also Cairn India’s Rajasthan block and British energy firm BG Group- operated Panna/Mukta and Tapti fields, has constituted various teams for undertaking the audit, sources in the know said.
