The Lok Sabha Speaker Mrs Meira Kumar has pointed out that it was necessary to re craft the legal framework in a manner that enables the CAG to effectively discharge his constitutional responsibilities. She emphasized that the legal framework has to be suitably strengthened so that any ambiguities or inadequacies in the powers of the CAG, to discharge his mandate in the present day scenario, can be removed. 1.0 In any civilised society, a taxing statute is expected to be prospective i.e. levying the tax on the income / transaction which will take place in future. This is for the reason that, at the time of entering into the transaction, the tax payers (TP) must have knowledge of the taxes which he is expected to pay. It also provides an opportunity to the TP of carrying out cost-benefit analysis of the proposed transaction and to decide whether to enter into such a transaction or not.
Cases of fraudulent companies selling insurance products in India without a licence from the sector regulator, Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (Irda), are on the rise. Several such incidents have come to Irda’s attention in the last eight to ten months.
Will we see a company audited by two audit firms at the same time? That looks a possibility from what the Union Minister of State for Corporate Affairs and Minority Affairs, Mr Salman Khurshid, said on 29.03.2009 while Addressing a meeting of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Mr Khurshid said, in the context of making the audit function effective, that there had emerged an idea of dual audit so that there are two companies (firms) in a sense keeping a check on each other.
