SKS Microfinance today challenged in the Supreme Court the special act passed by the Andhra Pradesh government to regulate micro finance institutions in the state after allegations that their high interest rates and strong-arm recovery methods led to suicides by farmers. A bench of justices Markandey Katju and Gyan Sudha Mishra issued notice to the state government, directing it to file reply and posted the matter for hearing in the third week of July.

Worried over the circulation of a large number of fake ration cards , Orissa government has asked collectors of eight districts to initiate criminal proceedings against the responsible officials. The department of food supplies and consumer welfare asked the collectors of Bolangir, Kalahandi, Koraput, Nuapada, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, Rayagada and Sonepur to act against officials involved in issuance of such ration cards.

The Centre on Thursday said it has plans to introduce bill on Land Acquisition in the next session of Parliament as there appears to be consensus on the issue. However, Home Minister P Chidambaram said law and order in Uttar Pradesh is not a “happy situation” as farmers were protesting in many villages on the land acquisition issue and criticised the way Chief Minister Mayawati was handling the protests by farmers.

The Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation plans to carry out the fieldwork of this Census during January to June 2012, in collaboration with all State and Union Territory Governments. Dr. M. S. Gill, Union Minister of Statistics and Programme Implementation has reviewed the plan of action for the conduct of the Sixth Economic Census.

The Middle Office (MO), Department of Economic Affairs in the Ministry of Finance has been bringing out the Quarterly Report on debt management since September 2010. CBI raid at premises of trader in bank loan case

A Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team has raided the premises of a local trader who has allegedly committed Rs 1.75 crore bank loan fraud. No arrest has been made so far in the raid conducted yesterday, CBI sources said, adding investigation was still on.The accused, Balwinder Singh, had taken loan from Punjab National Bank for setting up a cement factory at Mehmewala village here but failed to return the amount, a bank official said.

CBI raids ex-minister's house, arrests retired IAS

The CBI today raided the residence of former Jharkhand health minister Bhanu Pratap Sahi in Garhwa and arrested a retired IAS officer in Ranchi in connection with a medicine scam, which surfaced in 2009. Siyaram Prasad Sinha, who was the health secretary when Sahi was the department minister, was produced before a special CBI court of N N Singh, which sent him to 14 days judicial custody.
