The asset classification of such accounts shall be determined with reference to the original date of NPA, (as if the account had not been treated as performing in the interregnum based on the aforesaid undertaking). On such down-gradation of the accounts, additional provisions as per the extant prudential norms should also be made.
Announcing the foreign trade policy 2009-14 here on Thursday, Mr Anand Sharma, Union Commerce Minister said, the Government wanted to provide a stable policy environment conducive for foreign trade and accordingly, it has been decided to continue with the DEPB (Duty Entitlement Pass Book Scheme) up to December 2010 and income-tax benefits under Sec 10 (A) for IT industry and under Sec 10 (B) for 100 per cent export oriented units for one additional year till March 31, 2011.

On September 21, 2007 banks were advised, vide our circular RPCD.PLNFS.No 3068 /06.02.31/2007-08, that they may extend collateral-free loans upto Rs. 5 lakh, to all newloans sanctioned to the units of MSE sector (both manufacturing and services enterprises) as defined under MSMED Act, 2006.On September 21, 2007 banks were advised, vide our circular RPCD.PLNFS.No 3068 /06.02.31/2007-08, that they may extend collateral-free loans upto Rs. 5 lakh, to all newloans sanctioned to the units of MSE sector (both manufacturing and services enterprises) as defined under MSMED Act, 2006.
The downstream investments of these banks will also be counted as FDI, barring it from investing in sectors that have caps, such as banking itself. Foreign capital forms a substantial portion in the capital structure of both ICICI Bank and HDFC bank.
All banks participating in RTGS / NEFT / NECS / ECS are, therefore, advised that when the destination of funds is to an NRE account, the originating / sponsor bank must ensure that the funds are eligible to be credited to an NRE account in India under the existing FEMA Regulations and Wire Transfer Guidelines. Beneficiary / Destination banks have to make requisite changes to the interface software, if not already done, so that all valid transactions indicating credit to an NRE account are not returned.
Necessary amendments to the Foreign Exchange Management (Transfer or Issue of Security by a Person Resident Outside India) Regulations, 2000 and Foreign Exchange Management (Transfer or Issue of Any Foreign Security) Regulations, 2004, are being issued separately.
Presently cash withdrawal facility using plastic cards is available only at Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs). As on May 31, 2009, number of ATMs and POS terminals in the country stood at 44,857 and 4,70,237 respectively. The use of debit cards at Point-of-Sale (POS) terminals at different merchant establishments has been steadily increasing. As a further step towards enhancing the customer convenience in using the plastic money, it has been decided to permit cash withdrawals at POS terminals. To start with, this facility will be available for all debit cards issued in India, upto Rs.1000/- per day.
Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) including SEBI approved sub-accounts of the FIIs, registered with SEBI and Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) may also invest, purchase, hold and transfer IDRs of eligible companies resident outside India and issued in the Indian capital market, subject to the Foreign Exchange Management (Transfer or Issue of Security by a Person Resident Outside India) Regulations, 2000 notified vide notification no. FEMA 20 / 2000-RB dated May 3, 2000.
As many of you aware that the RBI will be issuing Master Circular in the subject matter on every year in the month of July. It is consolidated the instructions/ guidelines/ circulars issued from July 01 to June 30 (12 months period) in every year.
