Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee on Monday allayed fears of withdrawal of the cashless mediclaim facility by public sector general insurance companies, saying these firms have not done away with these schemes and are only standardising the rates for various hospitals.
Finance Minister Shri Pranab Mukherjee has asked the Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) to bring their Non-Performing Assets (NPAs) below 5% by this year itself. Finance Minister also announced the wage revision of the pay-scale and allowances of the employees of the RRBs corresponding to those of Nationalised Banks as per 9th Bipartite Settlement. The additional cost burden of the arrears on this account would be about Rs. 791 crores.

The commerce department has sought a ‘middle of the road’ solution to the taxation problems thrown up by the draft direct taxes code for special economic zone that enjoy substantial tax concession. In a letter to the revenue department, the department has suggested ways in which the finance ministry could implement the new tax dispensation so that the investments already made in the zones continue to get the incentives promised under the current rules.

The changes to the original draft of the direct taxes code are going to cost taxpayers, with the government planning to significantly alter the slabs. To check the menace of international cross border tax evasion, the Union Ministry of Finance has approved eight income tax units within the Indian missions overseas, Finance minister Pranab Mukherjee said.The Union Finance Ministry has already set up two income tax overseas units within the Indian missions in Singapore and Mauritius, and recently approved eight more such units to facilitate seamless flow of tax-related information from abroad.
