While computing the income under the head ‘Profit and Gains of Business & Profession’ a scheduled bank (not being a bank incorporated by or under the laws of a foreign country) or a non-scheduled bank or a cooperate bank other than a primary agricultural credit society or a primary co-operative agricultural and rural bank is entitled to claim deduction of provision for bad debt of an amount not exceeding ten per-cent of the aggregate average advances made by the rural branches of such bank computed in the prescribed manner.
CIRCULAR NO 7/2008-Income Tax Dated: August 1, 2008 In exercise of the powers conferred under sub-section (1) of section 119 of Income-tax Act, 1961, Central Board of Direct Taxes hereby directs that corporations which are established by a Central, State or Provincial Act for the welfare and economic upliftment of ex-servicemen and whose income qualifies for exemption from Income-tax u/s. 10(26 BBB) of the Income Tax Act, 1961, are hereby given exemption from Tax Deduction/Collection at Source on their receipts.

Circular No. F. No.275/73/2007-IT(B) Service Tax component to be considered for deducting tax on any sum paid as professional and technical fees under section 194J The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has clarified that the payments made under section 194I differ significantly from payments made under section 194J in the way that in the case of 194I, TDS has to be deducted on any income paid as rent. However, in the case of section 194J TDS has to be deducted on any sum paid as professional and technical fees. The CBDT had decided to exclude TDS on service tax component on rental payment because it was construed that service tax payment cannot be regarded as income of the landlord. Since section 194J
