I am completely stressed. I have no time. I am feeling tired. I am feeling too low. I frequently have headaches. These are very common statements we would hear nowadays. This is a burnout situation. Nine out of ten are victims of this burnout.
We would try to understand and analyze this burnout situation through this article. We would study this situation in two parts. First we would see reasons and or causes of burnout and in later part, we would see how we could overcome it?
Let’s dive into it….
Reasons of Burnout:-
A. No self-discipline:-
One of the main reasons we become victims of burnout is lack of self-discipline. Literally we don’t have any control over our actions, reactions. We don’t schedule our day, week, and month. Even though we are able to schedule, we lack in setting priorities; which results in failure to do what we planned. Finally. it leads to incomplete tasks.
B. Over co-operative approach:-
Most of the time at the workplace due to the political atmosphere, we become victims of this. In good faith we start helping others at the workplace beyond our duties and responsibilities. And that’s where people start taking undue advantage of this. They take us for granted and many of us get pressurized due to additional work and responsibility.
C. Unable to priorities things:-
We must be able to analyze things, their importance and urgency to get it done. Due to inability to priorities things as A,B,C order at work as well as in personal life, tasks started accumulating. Which in turn leads to an increase in backlog.
D. Away from spirituality:-
Most of us think that spirituality is to do at a later stage of life. They keep pushing it at a later stage by putting forward a reason that they don’t have time to do it now. They consider it as a waste of time. In reality spirituality brings peace in life which helps us to make wise decisions in a number of complex situations.
E. Ignore physical as well as mental health:-
In our young age we run behind money to secure our retired life. But, what is the use of that money if we are unable to enjoy our wealth due to lack of health. All our accumulated wealth we would require to spend on our health if we don’t take efforts now. If we take and set priority to our health over all other things in life, we would not be a victim of burnout situation.
How to overcome:-
A. No means No:-
Many of us have a tendency to say yes for everything and to everyone. But due to this, things get piled up. We must understand one thing that practically it is not possible for us to be present everywhere. And also we should not be. Saying ‘NO’ to one thing brings the opportunity to do other things. Saying ‘YES’ to keep everyone happy is not our responsibility. In professional as well as in personal life this ‘NO’ with clarity definitely helps us to keep away from burnout situations.
B. Developing self-discipline:-
What is the difference between a soldier and a common man? Major difference between the two is self-discipline. Former is the true example of self-discipline. Whereas later one is the worst example in the area of self-discipline. We must follow a few daily rituals on a consistent basis. This we would do only if we are a person of self-discipline. Else it is impossible. Self-discipline keeps us accountable for everything we do. It drastically reduces the probability of occurrence of a burning out situation.
C. Adopting political approach:-
Politics in the corporate world is also very common nowadays. If you want to sustain and maintain yourself in corporate culture then you must first learn to be political. This approach is very much important to keep ourselves from burning out situations.
D. Brining spirituality in life:-
If you really want to keep yourself away from burnout situation then you must get closer to spirituality. Spirituality is not an old age act. How early you start it in your life will set your future life. When we read and listen to stories from scriptures, it helps us in many ways. We must live in a material world. No exception to it. But, still we live a full and satisfied life only when spirituality would become part of our life.
