Dear
The gross GST collections for April 2025 stood at 22.36 lakh crore, registering a robust growth of 12.6% over the 22.10 lakh crore collected in April 2024 — the highest ever recorded. Net GST revenues for April 2025 also reflected a healthy 9.1% increase over the corresponding figures from April last year. These numbers reflect the resilience of the Indian economy and the strength of cooperative federalism in action. The revenue growth also clearly indicates the improvement in compliance level by taxpayers as well as the improving efficiency in tax administration.
Last week, during a visit to the CGST Vadodara Zone, I interacted with senior officers of the Zone and office bearers of various employee associations. The engagements were both meaningful and productive. A notable highlight of the visit was the launch of a novel initiative—a cashless CGHS treatment facility for in-service officers through an MoU signed between the Vadodara Zone and VIROC Super Speciality Orthopaedic Hospital. This is the first such pre-approval-based arrangement in Gujarat and is a model worth emulating. The initiative enables CGHS beneficiary in-service officers and their dependents to receive cashless treatment, removing the burden of upfront payments and enabling them to focus on timely and appropriate medical care.
In a meticulously planned operation based on specific intelligence, officers of the DRI Amritsar Regional Unit intercepted an Indian national at Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport, Amritsar, who was attempting to smuggle foreign currency to Dubai. A detailed examination of the passenger’s checked-in baggage led to the recovery of assorted foreign currency in 11 different denominations, including USD 2,68,100; Euro 17,050; GBP 2,500; AUD 9,600; and QAR 20,000, among others, with a total value of Rs. 2.66 crore. The concealed foreign currency was seized and the individual was placed under arrest. Wonderful action to tighten the net on foreign currency smuggling!
In the month of April, we bid farewell to two of our esteemed colleagues, Ms. V. Usha and Shri Madur Sreedhar Reddy, on their superannuation. As they embark on this new journey, we wish them good health, enduring happiness, and the time to explore passions that may have taken a backseat during their years of devoted service. Their presence will be deeply missed, but their legacy of professionalism and commitment will continue to inspire us all.
Until next week!
Yours sincerely,
(Sanjay Kumar Agarwal)
All Officers and Staff of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs.
