Now you can get an Address proof along with your photo from India post. Since the ID proof is issued by India post which is a central government organization, it is similar to Govt ID cards like Driving license, Voters ID etc. It can be used for opening bank accounts, for getting telephone/internet connections etc.
The total cost for getting this ID card is Rs.250/ (Rs.10 for application and Rs.240/- processing fee). Inform everybody.

I am not sure why Postal department has been issuing Proof of address cared without issuing a circular to all. I am facing problem while appying Driving licenece and passport. No Public\Govt.\Private knows about this card. No use of this card. I applied and I got this card through Tathkal scheme by spending 600/-.Now i am not seeing any use of it. It better to give a public statement by Postal department.
I have applied for a Postal Proof of Address Card. after
submission of the application I got the information from the staff that a minimum of 40 days will be required to complete the formalities. and exactly after 50 days I got the ID card. One must have patience enough to visit often to the concerned post office to familiarize oneself with the postal staff so that when the card is arrived one can get it from the post office in person. Now I can at least say proudly, I have an Address Proof.

Before one month I had applied for Address proof card of through INDIA POST OFFICE -BEGUMPET HYDERABAD 500016 and post and post office executive visited to our house for verification but yet not received the Address proof card.
THIS ADDRESS PROOF CARD ISSUED BY POST OFFICE IS NOT AVAILABLE IN ALL CITIES OF INDIA. THIS SERVICE IS PROVIDED IN CHENNAI MAINLY AND MAY BE A VERY FEW OTHER CITIES. BUT AS OF NOW IT IS ONLY PROVIDED IN CHENNAI FOR SURE. THE SERVICE IS YET TO BE EXTENDED IN OTHER METRO CITIES. ALSO THE PROCESSING IS VERY CUMBERSOME AND TAKES UNCERTAIN PERIOD OF TIME. SO ITS BETTER NOT TO COUNT ON THAT ADDRESS PROOF TOO MUCH. THANKS.
May be Post office Address proof is not accepted for Passport Registration. Accepted: National banks 1 year statement, Election Card.
