Act now Link your PAN with Aadhaar by March 31, 2023, to avoid penalties. Learn the consequences of non-compliance and how to resolve issues with discrepancies.

The Government’s campaign to link PAN and Aadhaar has been going on for a long time, but the government is now very strict about it and now Aadhaar and PAN are being linked after paying the fixed fee of one thousand rupees, but if you have done so by March 31, 2023 If you do not link your PAN with Aadhaar, then your PAN number will become inoperative.

Let us see what is this law and what will be the consequences when you will not be able to link your PAN number with Aadhaar till 31 March 2023. Along with this, we will see what is the problem with the taxpayers whose PAN is not being linked to Aadhaar at this time and how the Government should solve it.

March 31, 2023 is coming now and this is a fixed date when your pen should be linked with your Aadhaar, although this process is going on for a long time but at this time if your pen is not linked to your Aadhaar and now you If you get it linked by March 31, 2023 by paying a late fee of Rs.1000.00, then it is okay, otherwise your PAN number will become inactive after March 31.

If your pan is not Aadhaar linked on or before 31st. March 2023 then the PAN will be inoperative from 1st April 2023 and please note some of the important consequences of it .  you will not be able  file income tax returns, your refunds will not be processed now, your TDS, wherever applicable , will be deducted at the maximum rate until your PAN is not activated again.  SEBI has also issued instructions that if PAN and Aadhaar are not linked till March 31, there may be  problems in investing. . Apart from this, your GST number is also Generated from the pen, so if the pen number becomes inactive, then sooner or later there will be trouble there too. In bank also PAN number is a big proof of your identity so there can be problem there too. Problems related to income tax will start from the same day itself i.e. from 1st. April 2023 but other problems will also come later so you have to be careful in this regard.

But one must  note that why many PAN and Aadhaar are not linked yet? The biggest reason for this is that when Aadhaar was issued, there was no such plan that it would be linked to PAN, so the data entered in Aadhaar at the time of Aadhaar was slightly different from PAN in many and now in such cases it is not linked to PAN. PAN Aadhaar is not being linked due to differences in the spelling of Name and surname or Date of Birth .

Another fact is that the name of the person in Aadhaar can be corrected from the PAN card, but if the date of birth has to be corrected in Aadhaar, then it can be corrected only from the birth certificate, passport or mark sheet of the authorized board or university and now what the cases left are mostly those who have none of these three and many of them are older people  and for them it is a problem. In case of Name difference, it can be changed with the evidence of PAN but it is not the case with Date of Birth.

It is not even that these remaining people are not trying now, but now those who have PAN card and Aadhaar also have the facility of name change according to PAN card, but if they do not have the desired proof regarding the date of birth, then  in such cases, only the date of birth recorded on the PAN card should be entered in Aadhaar to solve this problem. After all, at the time of taking the PAN Number, their date of birth was recorded only based on some evidence and now if this is not allowed , then their Aadhaar and PAN will never be linked and in those cases the problem will be endless.

It is true that the Government has given a lot of time in this regard and also introduced late fee in this regard after a long time and along with this the Government says that the problem of duplicate and bogus pan cards will also be solved by this but still Relief should be given in those cases where there is genuine difficulty because both the cards are issued by the Government of India and Aadhaar is made much later then the government should have linked it with PAN at the same time i.e. at the time of issue of Aadhar but this was not done hence still in some cases problem is there. The mismatch between Aadhaar and PAN is only because of the applicant’s lack of knowledge that it will be linked to Aadhaar later.

The Government should give three more months to the taxpayers before taking such strict action as mentioned above and wherever necessary, some relaxation, specially in case of difference in Date of Birth in Aadhar and PAN should be given so that PAN and Aadhar can easily be linked and large number of  taxpayers can be saved from the negative results of the actions taken if the PAN and Aadhar is not Linked.
