The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India soon proposes to start coaching classes for students through virtual classrooms, the Institute’s Vice-President, Mr G Ramaswamy, told journalists here on Sunday. “We will facilitate more virtual classrooms where students can access lectures and also download revisionary test papers, supplementary study material and suggested answers to prepare for exams,” he said.

He said that classes would be streamed in some of the metros “to begin with”, but the virtual classrooms would be taken across the country subsequently.

The virtual classrooms could also play a role in the institute’s efforts in providing IFRS-related training.

Some 1,500 large Indian companies will have to adopt the International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and there is big demand for training finance professionals in the new accounting standards.

ICAI began IFRS training last year. So far, about 1,800 chartered accountants have undergone the institute’s IFRS certificate course. The Institute has commenced training programmes for professionals at 58 centres in the country, Mr Ramaswamy said.
