Reserve Bank of India vide its circular dated May 18, 2017 has issued detailed guidelines on branch expansion of banks. 1. Scope These guidelines are applicable to all domestic Scheduled Commercial Banks (excluding Regional Rural Banks), Small Finance Banks, Payment Banks, and Local Area Banks. These are effective from May 18, 2017. A banking outlet is defined for any of the above-mentioned banks is a fixed-point service delivery unit manned by its staff or its Business correspondents where deposits, encashment of checks or lending operations are undertaken for a minimum of 4 hours per day and for a minimum of 5 days a week. The branch has to clearly indicate its time of operation, its controlling offices telephone, address and the working hours clearly. No disruption in working hours is expected.

It has now been decided to permit all licenced co-operative banks having their own ATM network to issue semi-closed PPIs, provided there are no restrictions on acceptance or repayment of deposits. This is subject to the compliance with eligibility criteria and other guidelines as prescribed by Department of Payment and Settlement Systems (DPSS), Reserve Bank of India (RBI) from time to time.
The One Rupee Currency Notes shall be printed at the note printing presses for issue under the authority of the Government of India for circulation. The standard paper weight and remedy (tolerance) allowed in printing of One Rupee Currency Notes shall be as specified in the Third Schedule.

ASSOCHAM has approached the RBI with a plea that the provisioning criteria for the non-performing assets (NPAs) in the case of proposed Wholesale Long- Term Finance (WLTF) banks should be based on stress tests of each of the funded projects, unlike the present standard provisioning norms due to a different nature of the long term, big ticket industrial or infrastructure projects to be covered by WLTF lenders.
