Reserve Bank of India (RBI), through its notification dated April 11, 2025 (RBI/2025-26/25), has revised the lead bank responsibilities in Rajasthan following the state’s district reorganisation. As per Gazette Notifications issued by the Government of Rajasthan on December 29, 2024, nine erstwhile districts were merged into twelve existing districts. Consequently, the previously assigned lead bank roles for the nine merged districts have been revoked. These included districts like Kekri, Shahpura, Anupgarh, and Dudu, with lead responsibilities held by banks such as Bank of Baroda, Punjab National Bank, State Bank of India, UCO Bank, and ICICI Bank.
The RBI has reviewed and either retained or modified the lead bank assignments in the affected areas. Most districts, including Ajmer, Tonk, Bhilwara, Bikaner, and Karauli, have retained their existing lead banks. Notably, Jaipur and Jodhpur have undergone changes in their lead bank responsibilities, which have been modified in response to the reorganisation. The State Bank of India and ICICI Bank continue to play lead roles in these two districts, albeit with revised scopes. Other districts remain unaffected, with no changes to their lead bank designations.
This move ensures continued banking coordination and service delivery at the district level post-reorganisation. The RBI’s proactive approach aims to maintain financial inclusion and efficient credit deployment through the Lead Bank Scheme, which plays a critical role in district-level banking operations.
