GSTN Number is a GST Registration Number Containing 15 Digits. It contains three things –

1. Two Digit State Code  at the Start of GSTN – State Code of Various States in India is as follows :-

01 – Jammu & Kashmir
02 – Himachal Pradesh
03 – Punjab
04 – Chandigarh
05 – Uttranchal
06 – Haryana
07 – Delhi
08 – Rajasthan
09 – Uttar Pradesh
10 – Bihar
11 – Sikkim
12 – Arunachal Pradesh
13 – Nagaland
14 – Manipur
15 – Mizoram
16 – Tripura
17 – Meghalaya
18 – Assam
19 – West Bengal
20 – Jharkhand
21 – Orissa
22 – Chhattisgarh
23 – Madhya Pradesh
24 – Gujarat
25 – Daman & Diu
26 – Dadra & Nagar Haveli
27 – Maharashtra
28 – Andhra Pradesh
29 – Karnataka
30 – Goa
31 – Lakshdweep
32 – Kerala
33 – Tamil Nadu
34 – Pondicherry
35 – Andaman & Nicobar Islands

2.  The state code is followed by the 10 digit PAN number (For TDS, it can be either PAN or TAN) followed by another 3 alpha numeric digits. Sample GSTIN for Normal Taxpayer, Composition Taxpayer, Casual Taxpayer etc. :

e.g. 07AAAAA1234A1Z1

3. For Non-resident Foreign Taxpayers or Non-resident online service provider,  the state code is followed by 2 digit year, 3 digit country code and 5 digit serial number per year and another 3 alpha numeric digits . Sample GSTIN for Non-resident Foreign Taxpayers and Non-resident online service provider :

e.g. 0717USA12345NF1

4. For UN Bodies, Embassies etc. and other notified persons, the term used is UIN. For the UIN, The state code is followed by two digit year, 3 digit country code and 5 digit serial number and another 3 digit of alpha numeric character. Sample UIN for Embassies, UN Bodies and other notified person etc.:

    CODES GIVEN IN THE ABOVE LIST ARE INTERCHANGED, ANDHRA PRADESH IS 37 AND TELENGANA STATE OMMITTED TO INCORPORATE IN THE LIST IT IS NO :36 PL. NOTE

    “3 Digit Check Code at the end”:

    Out of last 3 Digits, 1st one is always a Numeric indicating Sr. of GST Regn Application, ie, 1st, 2nd, etc. Regn Application.

    2nd one is always a Numeric.

    3rd and the last one is either Numeric or Alphabet.

    In case I am a service provider-Professional CONSULTING ENGINEER
    What is my SAC Code under GST.Is it same as it was earlier under Service Tax.
