Seeks to further amend notification No. 50/2017-Customs dated the 30th June, 2017 so as to notify BCD related changes.

Government of India, through Notification No. 05/2025-Customs dated February 1, 2025, introduced significant amendments to Notification No. 50/2017-Customs. These amendments pertain to Basic Customs Duty (BCD) adjustments across a range of goods. Key changes include the inclusion of new entries such as frozen fish paste and fish hydrolysate, both subject to a 5% BCD when used for specified manufacturing purposes. Further, provisions were made for reduced or nil BCD on lifesaving drugs, medicines, and diagnostic kits listed under specified categories. Adjustments were also made for industrial goods like components for electric lamps, wood polish materials, and certain parts for wind-operated electricity generators, which now attract revised duties. Additions were made to accommodate items such as shuttleless looms and their parts for the textile industry, with specified BCD exemptions aimed at boosting the sector. The notification also clarified duty rates for open-cell components used in Interactive Flat Panel Displays and outlined the validity of certain exemptions until March 31, 2025. Several obsolete clauses and entries were omitted to streamline the tariff structure.
