The Ministry of Law and Justice has reported significant advancements in the adoption of e-governance within the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT). As of February 28, 2025, over 26,000 appeals, applications, and petitions were filed electronically through the ITAT’s dedicated e-filing portal. This platform, introduced to streamline the filing process, is increasingly being used by stakeholders across the country. In a bid to modernize its infrastructure and ensure seamless virtual interactions, ITAT has equipped its new office premises in Delhi and Lucknow with advanced video conferencing systems. These upgrades facilitate uninterrupted virtual and hybrid hearings and are supported by the provision of free high-speed internet via Optical Fiber Cable (OFC) at various ITAT benches.

In accordance with the Supreme Court’s directives, ITAT has fully implemented hybrid and virtual hearings across all its benches, allowing litigants the flexibility to attend proceedings remotely. From July 2023 to December 2024, the Tribunal conducted 1,22,302 appeal hearings via video conferencing, reflecting a growing reliance on digital methods. ITAT benches have also ensured that requests for virtual hearings from involved parties are not declined, further reinforcing access and efficiency in the judicial process. These initiatives aim to improve transparency, reduce physical footfall, and enhance the efficiency of tax litigation proceedings.

The update was provided by Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for the Ministry of Law and Justice and Minister of State in the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, during a written reply in the Rajya Sabha. The developments underscore the shift towards a more digitally-enabled judicial ecosystem within tax administration, focusing on accessibility and timely resolution of disputes.

Another shameful hoax of this chameleon government and it’s infamous ministers and bureaucrats. Actual fact is that all ideas and planning and projects particularly on e governce including the crucial judicial segment as well as taxation field are totally borrowed conceptions from the UPA government and this most inefficient and financially shameless pauper regime will never acknowledge in public it’s disastrous performances in economic and tax administration front and monstrous exploitation of common people through GST and petrol, diesel, toll coupled with it’s gross failure to make the ITAT paperless since 2021 budget proposal and constituting GST tribunal for acute shortage of monies inspite of worst exploitation of common people surpassing the colonial period. The e filing mode in the ITAT portal is another effort to fool the stake holders in name of digitalization as filing of hard copies are compulsory and for that hilarious misnomer had received great scold and criticism from the Honble SC previous Honble C.J bench but still has guts and stratagem in it’s unsavvy spirit to continue the last game of befooling the nation.
