Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has issued Notification No. 61/2024-25, dated March 7, 2025, amending the export policy for broken rice under HS Code 1006 40 00. Under this amendment, the export restriction on broken rice has been lifted, changing its classification from “Prohibited” to “Free.” The change comes into effect immediately, allowing exporters to resume shipments without restrictions.

The decision is made under the authority of Section 3 and Section 5 of the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992, in conjunction with the Foreign Trade Policy. The move signifies a shift in India’s trade approach, potentially driven by improved domestic supply conditions or a strategic decision to enhance exports amid global demand. This change may impact both domestic and international rice markets, as India is one of the largest rice exporters globally.
