The Government of India, through Notification No. 14 (RE-2004)/2004-09, issued on January 4, 2005, introduced amendments to the ITC(HS) Classifications of Export and Import Items for the period 2004-09. The amendments specifically address the Exim Code 9706 00 00, which relates to antiques over 100 years old. The policy now restricts the import of such antiques but allows their entry under the saving clause 3(1) of the Foreign Trade (Exemption from Application of Rules in Certain Cases) Order, 1993, in accordance with Customs Notification 157 dated March 28, 1990. Additionally, the import of antiquarian books is now free, with no restrictions. This change, issued in public interest, aims to provide clearer import guidelines for these items.
