The Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested an Income Tax Officer and a Chartered Accountant, both of Aurangabad for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.15,000/- from the complainant. A complaint was received at CBI, ACB, Pune from the complainant against the ITO Ward (1)(2), Aurangabad and a Chartered Accountant of Aurangabad regarding demand of Rs.25,000/- as bribe to settle one complaint received by ITO against him without enquiry.
When I started my term as President, I was one of the youngest Central Council members, clearly fascinated by this prestigious assignment. Being a practicing cost accountant and a former Vice President of the Institute, I found my involvement in issues with a national impact a most stimulating experience. I certainly changed a lot in the process. And I am very pleased to say that the ICWAI also changed dramatically. Without a doubt, with the recent changes in economic and regulatory environment combined with the recognition by the Government of India, the profession has metamorphosed into a powerful career option for young individuals today.

The Council, at its 306th meeting held from 7th to 9th June, 2011, while considering Item No.30 relating to Notification of Benefits of Registered OCI u/s 7B(1) of Citizenship Act, 1955, decided to constitute a Group to consider appropriate steps for identifying a qualification bridging mechanism in line with the arrangements in place for MOUs/MRAs with accounting bodies and feasibility of considering provision to be prescribed for licensing of Overseas Citizens of India on terms and conditions which will be worked out by the Special Group in ICAI.
In continuation to the Institute’s Notification No. 13-CA (EXAM)/M/2011 dated 12th January, 2011, it is notified for the general information that Group – 1, Paper – 1 – Accounting of Integrated Professional Competence Examination held on 3rd May – 2011 in respect of Ms. Grishma Nadiq, Roll No. – 129394 whose Answer book was reported to be missing stands cancelled. The said examination will now be held again on 25th, July, 2011 from 10.00 AM to 1.00 PM.
Members participating at Convocation are requested to wear the Royal Blue Colour Blazer / Navy Blue Colour Blazer respectively and female members may wear saree / business suit while attending the Convocation and receiving the membership certificate. A tie and a lapel pin, saree pin in case of female members will be presented by the Institute to them at the convocation.
In a bid to ensure transparency in their functioning, a format for accounting and auditing of income and expenditure of political parties has been submitted to Election Commission by the Institute of Charted Accountants of India (ICAI). The implementation of the uniform format would help in bringing about accountability of political parties, ICAI President G Ramaswamy told reporters here last night.
