Reserve Bank of India issued the Local Area Banks – Financial Statements: Presentation and Disclosures (Amendment) Directions, 2026 on 5 January 2026, amending the 2025 disclosure framework. The amendment follows a review undertaken after the issuance of the Local Area Banks – Credit Risk Management Amendment Directions, 2026 and is issued under sections 21 and 35A of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949. The key change introduces a new disclosure requirement in Chapter III relating to “Exposures to Related Parties.” Local Area Banks are now required to disclose, in their notes to accounts, detailed information on loans sanctioned to related parties, outstanding balances as on 31 March, their proportion to total credit exposure, classification into Special Mention Accounts and Non-Performing Assets, and provisions held against such loans. Additionally, banks must disclose details of contracts and arrangements awarded to or outstanding with related parties. These amendments take effect from 1 April 2026, with the option of earlier implementation.
