1. Purpose
The Income Tax Department has provided free return preparation software in downloads page which are fully compliant with data quality requirements. However, there are certain commercially available software or websites that offer return preparation facilities as well. In order to ensure the data quality of ITRs prepared through such commercially available software, various types of validation rules are being deployed in the e-Filing portal, so that the data which is being uploaded are accurate and compliant to the validation rules to a large extent. The taxpayers are advised to review these validation rules to ensure that the software used by them is compliant with these requirements, to avoid rejection of return due to poor data quality or mistakes in the return. The software providers are strictly advised to adhere to these rules to avoid inconvenience to the taxpayers, who may use their software. Software providers may please note that these validation rules will be strictly monitored and enforced and each rule will have to be complied strictly. In case of violations, the concerned return preparation utility/ software is liable to be blacklisted without any notice and such blacklisting will be published on the e-filing website. No return using blacklisted software will be permitted to be uploaded till the time the software provider is able to provide details of correction in software. This may cause avoidable inconvenience to the taxpayers and loss of reputation to software providers for which the Income Tax Department will not be responsible.

In Schedule Salary, at Sl. No. 3 “exempt allowance” no drop down can be selected more than once. How to solve this error ? Anyone has any idea.
It worked. I had the same error regarding 80DD, 80U. I did what Deblina said. At first, it did not work. Then I went through the entire queries right from the beginning. There I said the 2 selected, with 75000 values. Then I verified successfuly. Then, I went back and deleted the 80DD and 80U. it verified successfully. Thanks!
Thanks. This was a life saver. i was stuck on the error trying to figure out what the problem was for nearly 10 Hrs. Trying out various combinations. It worked exactly like deblina had stated. First i added the exemptions with the amounts. Got the errors cleared then went back and deleted the exemptions. Managed to file before the deadline.
When you add 80DD or 80U and Save, the form does not actually Saves it. Open Section VI again to ensure the values are saved. Than validate, and errors should go away
Since option No is selected for ‘Are you opting for new tax regime u/s 115BAC?, In Schedule VI-A, assessee has claimed deduction u/s 80DD for dependent person with disability should be equal to Rs.75,000
Any fix for this? nothing is seems to be working for me
Guys …its very simple ..
1) Just go to – schedule VI A, Chapter C – and simply delete 80U (if you are getting errors for 80U).
2. Confirm and validate.
3) Error would go away now.
4. Go back to schedule VI A and then under 80D add the Mediclaim, preventive test, sr citizen medical expenses, etc. and save it
5. Save, confirm, validate and then submit
Once you are done successfully….
Pl. don’t forget to THANKS ME ….
Your truly… Ajay Kumar (AK) Thane.
error solved. thanks for your valuable suggestion.
Still getting the same error
In my case, it is resolved as below.
1. Don’t select anything for 80DD and 80U during schedule selection / schedule questions.
2. Under schedule VI A, add Rs.1 under 80DD and 80U (if you are getting errors for both 80DD and 80U). System would automatically consider it as 75000 each.
3. Confirm and validate. Error would go away.
4. Go back to schedule VI A and then delete 80DD and 80U (added before).
5. Save, confirm, validate and then submit.
thank you!
Thanks Shreerang for the great idea !

Thank you, this suggestion was helpful. Validation was successful.
Comment by DEBLINA NANDI ROY FIRST PLEASE ADD AN AMOUNT EXACTLY SIMILAR TO THE AMOUNT OF ERROR BEING SHOWN AGAINST 80DD. SAY THE ERROR CONTAINS RS. 75000 THEN PUT 75000 OR 125000 (IF THE ERROR SHOWS SO) AND SAVE AND VERIFY THE RETURN. IT WILL REMOVE THE ERROR. NOW GO BACK AND DELETE THE 80DD TAB THAT YOU ADDED EARLIER AND SAVE AND CONFIRM SCH VIA AGAIN. ON VERIFICATION THE ERROR WILL BE REMOVED.
This worked !! Thanks a lot
During submition, I get a validation error:
In schedule TDS Other than Salary, TDS claimed cannot be more than Gross income disclosed.
I’ve used TDS as per 26AS and I’d to pay a tax at the end of the form. SO it seems contradictory as a layman.
I’ll be highly obliged if you can kindly advise on the schedules that may need to be updated to fix the above error.

Can someone suggest please?
Thanks, it worked to add 80DD, confirm. And then remove 80DD and confirm again.
It worked for me also. However I put value as zero, added and then deleted it. 80U and 80DD both errors were removed.
