New Delhi (PTI): The Central Vigilance Commission has disposed of 485 cases and effected recoveries to the tune of Rs 13.55 crore in the last one month alone.

The Commission has launched prosecution against 10 officers including six from Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), two from Department of Telecommunication and one each from Central Board of Excise and Customs (CBEC) and Ministry of Home Affairs.

The Commission has issued sanctions for prosecution against six officers – two each from Railways Ministry, Ministry of Urban Development and CBEC, it said in the performance report for June 2009.

It imposed a major penalty on 41 officers which included 17 from Railways Ministry, four each from insurance companies and Delhi Development Authority, three from Indian Oil Corporation Limited and two from Delhi Jal Board.

It has also advised to initiate major penalty proceedings against 134 officers including 46 from public sector banks, 25 from Municipal Corporation of Delhi and 13 from Railways Ministry.

The CVC expressed its concern over continuing delays in filling the post of Chief Vigilance Officers (CVOs) in several key organisations.

It has resolved 682 complaints sent to it for necessary action along with 99 others which were referred to it for investigation and report, the document said.

The Commission ordered direct inquiry in three cases where respective organisation delayed investigation report on complaint against senior official.

“The CTE organisation submitted intensive examination reports in six cases during June 2009 of which three were in civil works, two in Stores or Purchase and one in Electrical.

The intensive examination of the Chief Technical Examination organisation resulted in recoveries of Rs 13.55 crore during the month,” it said.

On the basis of advice tendered by the Commission, one senior officer each of Ordnance Factory Board and Ministry of railways were punished during the month, the report said.

During the month, the Commission observed that in six cases penalty imposed by departments or organisations were in deviation from the Commission’s advice. These included two cases from Urban Development Ministry and one each from Punjab and Sind bank, State Bank of India and Railway Ministry.
