DO No. 08/CH(IC)/2023 Dated: 02nd June, 2023

Last week, I had the opportunity of meeting Customs Preventive formations in Vishakhapatnam. The day-long conference saw in-depth discussions on the status of our marine assets, preventive functions and procedures and equipment. Steps towards making our preventive functions future ready were also deliberated.

Keeping alive the spirit of being future ready, the Directorate General of Systems & Data Management organized the second ADVAIT Hackathon on Data Analytics on the 25th and 26th of May, 2023. Just like the first edition, the event provided platform for officers to show case their data analytics capabilities and will further spur a data-driven culture in the organization.

My heartiest congratulations to the officers and teams that won as well as to all those who participated. Your willingness to apply yourself to the resolution of problems through technology is testimony to your commitment to the service.

This edition also featured a Poster Presentation competition as well as a Bugbash competition which saw officers compete to detect bugs in the ADVAIT utility. This is an excellent initiative and I was happy to note the enthusiastic participation. My felicitations to Pr. Director General,

Directorate General of Systems 86 Data Management and his team for providing a platform to willing officers to hone and test their skills in these areas.

On the enforcement side, based on specific intelligence, the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) busted a clandestine makeshift laboratory in a remote poultry farm in Telangana and seized more than 31 kgs. of Alprazolam, a psychotropic substance.

Destruction of such seized contraband is the other end of the spectrum of the Drug Enforcement continuum. A large quantity of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances were destroyed by Mumbai Customs Zone-III, last week. The drugs destroyed included cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine, marijuana and Mandrax tablets with a cumulative value estimated to be around Rs. 1500 Crores.

Before I sign off for the week, I would like to share about the remodeled and upgraded armoury of the Delhi Customs Preventive Zone. Proper storage and handling of our equipment is a must for any preventive formation. Kudos to Chief Commissioner, Delhi Customs Preventive Zone and her team for this initiative.

Till next week!

Yours Sincerely,

(Vivek Johri)
