Subject: Advisory on maintaining the hygiene and sanitization of Barber shops/hair‑cut saloons during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Corona virus Disease 2019 (COVID -19) is a systemic disease caused by a novel Corona virus (SARS-CoV-2), transmitted in most instances through respiratory droplets, direct contact with cases and also through contaminated surfaces/objects. Though the virus survives on environmental surfaces for a varied period of time, it gets easily inactivated by chemical disinfectants. Correct and timely information and knowledge about the corona virus is the key to control the pandemic.
1. The owner of the Barber shop/ Hair-cut saloon will ensure that any staff member who has symptoms of COVID-19 (Fever, Dry Cough, breathing difficulty etc) shall stay at home seek medical advice. Similarly no client having such symptoms should be attended.
2. All clients should be asked to avail services unaccompanied unless necessary (such as parent/guardian). It should be ensured by the owners that there is no unnecessary crowding Barber shops/Hair cut saloons.
3. Clients must use the mask to extent possible while availing services. Owners and staff working in such shops will mandatorily use mask.
4. All guidelines related to prevention of Covid-19 like frequent hand washing (with soap and water or alcohol based hand sanitizer), maintaining a physical distance of one meter, following respiratory hygiene, keeping a watch over disease symptoms, no spitting in public etc must be complied with during the interpersonal dealing of clients and staff.
5. The shop owners should encourage the customers to use the digital payment mode as much as possible.
6. In case cash transaction is used, the shopkeeper, staff and clients shall sanitize their hands immediately before and after cash transaction.
7. Indoor areas including service rooms, waiting areas, workstations etc should be cleaned preferably every 2-3 hours. Floors should be cleaned with 1% Sodium Hypochlorite or equivalent commercial disinfectant.
8. Furniture and frequently touched surfaces and articles should be regularly cleaned/sanitized.
9. Tools (Scissors, razors, combs, styling tools) should be wiped with 1% Sodium Hypochlorite after every use. Robes, towels and related items should be clean and regularly washed robes, towels etc. Should not be reused for multiple clients.
