1. Introduction
In the contemporary business landscape, technology plays a pivotal role in facilitating diverse functions, extending beyond mere transaction capturing and processing to areas often overlooked, such as Corporate Governance and Risk Management. The increasing reliance on digital systems by many businesses introduces a heightened risk of fraud and forgery. Recognizing these challenges, the significance of obtaining a DISA qualification has surged.
Today, a growing number of Chartered Accountants are choosing to pursue DISA after successfully clearing their CA exams. This qualification has become highly valuable as it not only opens doors for professionals to provide IT risk advisory services but also plays a crucial role in securing opportunities for Bank Audits and Information System Audits.
Formerly known as the ISA 3.0 course, DISA has evolved to meet the dynamic demands of the digital era. Its relevance has expanded beyond the traditional scope of chartered accountancy, addressing the pressing need for professionals well-versed in Information System Audit. As businesses navigate the intricate landscape of technology-driven operations, DISA has emerged as a key credential, empowering professionals to navigate and mitigate the evolving risks associated with digital systems.

2. What is disa or what is disa full form?
DISA stands for Diploma in Information Systems (ISA 3.0), a comprehensive course provided by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). The DISA exams are organized and conducted by ICAI.
The Diploma in Information System Audit is designed by ICAI to enrich the professional skills of its members, serving as a Post Qualification Course. This program equips members with the necessary expertise to deliver services in emerging areas such as information security and business continuity, expanding beyond the realms of traditional practice.
Organizations, particularly for internal audits, exhibit a preference for audit firms with partners who hold DISA qualifications. Regulatory bodies like RBI, SEBI, and IRDAI have already made it mandatory for banks, broking houses, and insurance companies to undergo annual system audits.
The benefits of DISA extend to employed individuals as well, as the diploma is increasingly valued in the job market. Employees engaged in tasks involving extensive system usage, such as systems audit, find DISA to be a valuable addition to their skill set. Even for those dealing with basic applications like Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, DISA enhances their knowledge and enriches their resume. The course, therefore, proves to be versatile and beneficial, catering to the evolving demands of both professional and employment spheres.
3. Many people ask the difference between DISA and CISA
DISA, a diploma course in systems security and audit, is issued by ICAI under the license obtained from ISACA. On the other hand, CISA is a certificate course in systems security and audit offered directly by ISACA, a US-based organization. While the content of both DISA and CISA is similar, there are notable differences between the two certifications.
CISA holds global recognition as a certification for system audit, whereas DISA is specifically recognized within India and neighboring countries, as it is a certification from the ICAI institute itself. DISA is often considered a smaller version of the CISA course provided by ISACA. It is commonly perceived that successfully completing the DISA course can indicate eligibility or preparedness for the CISA exam.
Notably, DISA is designed for members of ICAI, restricting its accessibility, whereas CISA is open to a broader audience, including CA aspirants. CISA’s global recognition positions it as a comprehensive certification, while DISA is often viewed as an instrument to secure bank audits within the Indian context.
According to individuals who have completed both courses, passing CISA tends to make obtaining DISA relatively easier. It is suggested that DISA is more tailored to the CA profession, emphasizing attestation, assertions, and supporting the CA role, whereas CISA has a broader scope, delving deeper into various technology dimensions.
Cost-wise, DISA is generally more affordable than CISA. If an individual intends to work exclusively in India, obtaining the DISA certification may suffice. Some opinions suggest that ICAI has already integrated portions of DISA into the CA course at the Intermediate and Final levels, along with mandatory ITT training. Consequently, some argue that pursuing DISA separately may not be significantly beneficial for a new CA. However, it is essential to note that this perspective is subjective and may not universally apply.
4. How to prepare for the DISA Exam:
Engage with your study materials thoroughly, despite their potentially lengthy and tedious nature, as this will provide you with a comprehensive understanding of your course content. The study material provided by ICAI proves to be highly beneficial, serving as a valuable resource in your exam preparation.
To enhance your grasp of the subject matter, don’t rely solely on reading; extensive practice is essential for exam success. Dedicate ample time to working through a multitude of questions, as this practical application of knowledge reinforces your learning and helps you develop problem-solving skills crucial for exams.
For a targeted approach, make use of the institute’s DISA question bank and the questions provided at the conclusion of each chapter in your study modules. These resources offer specific insights and aid in honing your understanding of key concepts. By incorporating these practices into your study routine, you’ll be better equipped to tackle the challenges presented in your exams and achieve success in your academic pursuits.
