Tata Communications Limited has announced its ambitious plan to construct India’s AI super highway, a significant infrastructure project aimed at bolstering the nation’s digital capabilities. The initiative, disclosed in a press release on 26 October 2026, is set to expand the company’s network capacity significantly, marking a pivotal development in India’s technological landscape.
The proposed project will see an addition of approximately 6 petabits per second (Pbps) to Tata Communications’ existing network capacity of 1.25 Pbps. The expansion is slated for completion between the fiscal years 2030 and 2036. This substantial increase in capacity is expected to enhance the company’s ability to support the growing demand for artificial intelligence and data-driven services across various sectors in India.

Tata Communications plans to finance this investment through its operating cash flows, reflecting the company’s robust financial health and confidence in its growth trajectory. The initiative underscores Tata Communications’ commitment to driving technological advancement and supporting India’s digital transformation.
Market analysts view this development as a strategic move by Tata Communications to strengthen its position in the rapidly evolving digital infrastructure sector. As AI and data services continue to gain prominence, the expansion of network capacity is likely to provide the company with a competitive edge. The project aligns with broader national objectives to enhance digital infrastructure, positioning India as a leader in the global digital economy.
