The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has reported multiple actions concerning corruption cases involving Income Tax and Customs & Central Excise officials. On June 3, 2025, the CBI secured an ad-interim attachment order for 14 properties, valued over Rs. 7 crores, belonging to a former Additional Commissioner of Income Tax. This action stems from a disproportionate assets case registered on September 22, 2022, alleging the official acquired assets totaling Rs. 7,52,61,831 disproportionate to known income between 2008 and 2018. The properties are located in Ghaziabad, Lucknow, Hardoi, Barabanki, and Goa, and investigations are ongoing.
Additionally, the CBI made progress in a bribery case involving a 2007-batch Senior Indian Revenue Service (Customs & Central Excise) officer, currently an Additional Director General. On May 31, 2025, a case was registered against the officer for allegedly demanding Rs. 45 lakhs from a complainant for favorable treatment, accompanied by threats. A private individual was apprehended on June 1, 2025, accepting Rs. 25 lakhs on the officer’s behalf at the officer’s Mohali residence, with the officer subsequently arrested at his Vasant Kunj, New Delhi residence. Both were remanded to judicial custody for 14 days. Subsequent searches on June 2, 2025, yielded approximately 3.5 kg of gold, 2 kg of silver (totaling around Rs. 3.5 crore), Rs. 1 crore in cash, and documents for a locker, 25 bank accounts, and immovable properties in Delhi, Mumbai, and Punjab. Investigations continue in this matter as well.

Properties worth over 7 Crores attached in a Disproportionate Assets case
The Special Judge, Anti Corruption, CBI Court no.1, Ghaziabad has issued ad-interim order on 02.06.2025 for attachment of 14 properties of the then Additional Commissioner, Income Tax in a case related to Disproportionate Assets.
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had registered a Disproportionate Assets case on 22.09.2022 against the then Additional Commissioner, Income Tax. It was alleged that the accused while posting and functioning as Dy. Commissioner/ Joint Commissioner/ Addl. Commissioner during the period 01.01.2008 to 30.06.2018 in Income Tax offices at New Delhi, Moradabad, Lucknow and other places, as public servant, indulged in corrupt practices and acquired disproportionate assets of Rs.7,52,61,831/- to his known source of income which he cannot satisfactorily account for.
During the course of investigation, 14 Immovable Assets, worth in Crores, were found to be acquired /possessed by the accused and his family members. These properties are located at Ghaziabad, Lucknow, Hardoi, Barabanki and Goa.
Investigation is continuing.

CBI conducts searches and recovers approx. 3.5 kg of gold, 2 kg of silver and one crore cash etc. in the on-going investigation related to arrest of two accused including a Senior IRS officer

In the on-going investigation related to the arrest of two accused including a Senior Indian Revenue Service (Customs & Central Excise) officer of the 2007 batch, presently posted as Additional Director General, Directorate of Taxpayer Services, CR Building, ITO, New Delhi, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has conducted searches at various premises and recovered substantial assets and incriminating material, including approximately 3.5 kg of Gold and 2 kg of Silver, valued at around ₹3.5 crore; cash amounting to ₹1 crore approx.; Documents of a locker and 25 bank accounts with various banks; and Documents of immovable properties and assets located in Delhi, Mumbai and Punjab. Total value of all movable and immovable assets is yet to be ascertained.

A case was registered by CBI on 31.05.2025 against the said accused on allegations that accused public servant demanded illegal gratification of Rs.45 lakhs from the complainant in exchange for extending favourable treatment from the Revenue/Income Tax Department. The demand was accompanied by threats of legal action, imposition of heavy penalties, and harassment in case of non-compliance.
CBI laid a trap and caught accused private person red-handed while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.25 lakhs from the complainant on behalf of accused public servant at the public servant’s residence in Mohali. Accused public servant was apprehended from his residence in Vasant Kunj, New Delhi.
Both accused were arrested and produced before the designated Court on 01.06.2025 and the Hon’ble Court sent both accused to Judicial Custody for 14 days.
Investigation is continuing.

Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two accused including a Senior Indian Revenue Service Officer of 2007 batch, presently posted as Additional Director General, Directorate of Taxpayer Services, New Delhi and a private person for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 25 lakh as part payment of total demanded bribe of Rs. 45 lakh from the complainant.
A case was registered by CBI on 31.05.2025 against said accused on allegations that accused public servant demanded illegal gratification of Rs. 45 lakh from the complainant in exchange for extending favourable treatment. The demand was accompanied by threats of legal action and harassment in case of non-compliance.
