Hindi sentences

This festive week, I begin by offering my salutations to the light that evocates auspiciousness; prosperity, good health, abundance and steers us in the right direction. I hope everyone enjoyed the festivities with their loved ones. I was overwhelmed by the large number of personal greetings I received on the occasion which I heartily reciprocate.

The festive period acquired a new significance as we welcomed a fresh batch of entrants to the CBIC family. As part of the Mission Mode Recruitment Drive of the Government, CBIC issued 2006 appointment letters to newly appointed Inspectors, Preventive Officers, Examiners and Tax Assistants, last week. Some of the entrants were fortunate to receive the appointment letter in person from the Hon’ble Union Finance Minister at Chennai. Congratulations and best wishes to all the new appointees, who I am sure, will find fulfilment through this great opportunity to serve the nation.

As we move into the second half of the present financial year, we need to regroup and refocus our efforts on important areas of work – further augmentation of revenue and improvement in compliance, completion of pending investigation, expeditious disposal of seized items especially precious metals.

It was a busy week on the anti-smuggling front! The officers of Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) intercepted two courier consignments in Mumbai which led to the recovery of 86.5 Kg of high-quality hydroponic weed (Cannabis) valued at over Rs. 39 Crore.

Further, officers from DRI interdicted a Container at Mundhra Port which was being used to smuggle over 1.15 Crore sticks of foreign brand Cigarettes valued to at about Rs. 33 Crores. Congratulations to the officers for yet another excellent detection.

Further, officers of the Customs Commissionerate (Preventive), Vijayawada detected a case of smuggling of Gold which resulted in the seizure of over 13 kg. of Gold valued at more than Rs. 6 Crore. The well co-ordinated operation saw multiple interdictions at various places and led to the recovery of a large amount of unaccounted Cash as well.

The week gone by also saw officers of Imphal Customs Division of Customs Commissionerate (Preventive), NER Shillong interdict about 50,000 Amphetamine tablets valued at about Rs. 5 Crore as well as over 1 kg. of Gold from an arriving passenger at the Imphal International Airport. Further, officers of Guwahati Customs Division detected a case of smuggling of over 9,50,000 sticks of foreign origin cigarettes valued at over Rs. 2 Crore. Kudos to the officers for their dedication and hard work.

Moving forward, a team from the field formations of CGST & Customs and a few Directorates at Delhi represented the Ministry of Finance in an Inter-Ministry Hindi short play competition. They performed the play, “………………..”  which won awards for Best Play, Best Production, Best Director, Best Actor Male in Supporting & 2nd Prize for Best Female Lead. Heartiest Congratulations to the entire team for a stellar performance.

Before, I sign off for the week, I would like to acknowledge and applaud the performance of our officers in National athletic events. Archana Suseendran from Chennai Customs Zone won the Gold in the 200 meters sprint, Abha Khatua from Mumbai Customs bagged a Silver Medal in the Shot Put event and Mohammed Salahuddin from the Chennai Central Goods & Services Tax Zone won the Silver in Triple Jump Event at the 61st National Open Athletics Championships 2022 in Bangalore.

Further, Ms. Pooja from the Delhi CGST Zone won Bronze Medals in the 63 Kg & 70 Kg categories in the Judo event in the recently concluded National Games, 2022 and Raman Kumar & Amit Kumar, also from the Delhi CGST Zone were part of the Haryana State Volleyball team that won the Bronze Medal at the games.
