National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) has introduced new transaction and product codes for processing Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) transactions under the National Automated Clearing House (NACH). These updates, effective November 23, 2024, aim to streamline DBT processing for government departments via the Aadhaar Payment Bridge System (APBS) and the Account Clearing House (ACH).

For APBS, the new transaction code is ’95’ with a header code of ’77’, while for ACH, the product type is designated as ‘DBG’. State and Central Government departments will connect directly to NACH with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) as the sponsor bank for presenting transactions. Destination banks will receive inward transactions based on these new codes.

Technical specifications and inward file naming conventions have been detailed in Annexure I, with distinct naming formats for APB and ACH credit files. Banks must modify their systems to accommodate the new codes and prepare for the revised session naming structure (e.g., APB CR Present 2 and ACH CR Present 2). A separate session will be conducted for these transactions, with further details shared prior to the go-live date.

Member banks are advised to ensure system readiness and disseminate this information internally before the commencement date. Queries can be raised through NPCI’s CRM platform. This initiative enhances clarity and standardization in processing DBT transactions within NACH.
