Notification No. 24(RE-99)/1997-2002, dated August 10, 1999, revises import policies under the Export and Import Policy, 1997-2002, making changes in the ITC(HS) classification of export and import items. Several new entries are added to the Exim code, such as microprocessors for data processing machines, and various consumer goods like DVD players, audio cassettes, and optical media. Some products, including CD players, digital tapes, and rewritable optical discs, are now restricted and can only be imported under a Special Import Licence (SIL). Additionally, certain items like ammonium sulphate and CD players are also categorized as restricted under similar conditions. The notification aims to regulate the import of consumer goods and high-tech products while ensuring their entry under controlled circumstances. These changes are issued under the authority of the Director General of Foreign Trade, in public interest, with provisions for a Special Import Licence.

S.O (E) – In exercise of powers conferred under section 5 of the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992 read with paragraph 1.3 and 4.1 of the Export and Import Policy, 1997-2002, the Central Government hereby makes the following amendments in the ITC(HS) Classifications of Export and Import Items, 1997-2002 publishedon 31st March, 1997 (RE-98) as amended from time to time, namely –
