On July 20, 2000, the Government of India issued Notification No. 24(RE-2000) 1997-2002 under the Foreign Trade (Development and Regulation) Act, 1992, which prohibits the sale of tea by Export Oriented Units (EOUs) and units in Export Processing Zones (EPZs) in the Domestic Tariff Area (DTA). This ban overrides provisions in paragraphs 9.9 and 9.10(b) of the Export and Import Policy for 1997-2002. The notification aims to regulate the trade and movement of tea within India, ensuring its export focus for these units, and is issued in public interest to safeguard the country’s trade policy objectives.

NEW DELHI: 20th  July, 2000

S.O  (E) – In exercise of powers conferred under section 5 of the Foreign Trade  (Development  and Regulation) Act, 1992  read with paragraph 1.3 and 4.1 of the Export and Import Policy, 1997-2002, the Central Government hereby bans sale of Tea by Export Oriented Units(EOUs) and units in Export Processing Zones (EPZs) in Domestic Tariff Area (DTA), not withstanding anything contained in paragraph 9.9 and 9.10 (b) of  Export and Import Policy, 1997-2002.

This issues in Public Interest.
