The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), under the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has issued Notification No. 30/2024-25, dated September 18, 2024, amending the import policy for fresh green areca nuts from Bhutan. This notification modifies the existing Import Policy Condition under ITC(HS) 2022, Schedule I. Previously, the import of 17,000 metric tonnes of fresh areca nuts was permissible only through two designated Land Customs Stations (LCS). The latest amendment expands the list of approved ports to include LCS Hatisar and LCS Darranga, in addition to the existing ones.

The revised policy removes the Minimum Import Price (MIP) condition for these imports, facilitating smoother trade. The imports must still be accompanied by a valid port-specific Registration Certificate issued by the DGFT. This adjustment aims to enhance trade efficiency and support the import process by broadening the entry points for areca nuts into India. The change reflects the government’s effort to streamline and increase the accessibility of this agricultural product from Bhutan.
