Regional Manager is not a ‘workman’ under Industrial Disputes Act, 1947: SC

The Regional sales manager will not fall under the definition of workman as given under the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 (“ID Act”).

The appeal arises out of judgement passed by the Division bench of the Karnataka High Court wherein it held the respondent would not fall under the ambit of the ‘workman’ as envisaged under the ID Act.

The respondent was appointed as a ‘Regional Business Head (South)’ by the appellant in the grade of Senior Manager
