The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (Food Safety and Standards Authority of India) has issued a notification dated 28 January 2026 amending its 2016 gazette on the recognition of food testing laboratories under Section 43(1) of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The amendment updates the regional lists by adding newly accredited laboratories across the Western, Southern, and Eastern regions and by removing certain entries in Maharashtra. In the Western Region, new laboratories have been included in Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra with specified scopes covering chemical and/or biological testing, while two existing Maharashtra laboratories have been omitted. The Southern Region sees additions in Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Telangana, each accredited for biological and chemical testing. In the Eastern Region, a new laboratory has been added in Bihar with similar accreditation scope. These changes strengthen testing capacity, update the accredited network, and ensure regulatory oversight reflects current laboratory capabilities.
