The Minister of State for Corporate Affairs, Shri Harsh Malhotra, provided data on the number of companies with registered offices in West Bengal over the past 15 years. The data, shared in a response to an unstarred question in the Lok Sabha, shows a consistent increase in the number of companies in the state, rising from 121,496 as of March 31, 2010, to 250,343 as of July 31, 2025. The Minister also provided details on company incorporations and relocations from West Bengal during the last five financial years. According to the data, between the fiscal years 2020-21 and 2024-25, the number of new companies incorporated in the state each year ranged from approximately 7,000 to over 8,500. During the same period, the number of companies that relocated their registered offices from West Bengal to other states ranged from 270 to 371 annually, demonstrating that while there is an increasing trend in new registrations, a portion of companies continue to move their base out of the state.
