The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued a notification dated April 28, 2026, amending its 2016 notification concerning the recognition and accreditation of food testing laboratories across India. The amendment revises entries in the Northern, Western, and Southern regions to update laboratory details, including names, registration numbers, addresses, and scope of accreditation. In Rajasthan, a public health laboratory in Alwar is substituted with chemical testing scope. In Maharashtra, a Navi Mumbai-based laboratory’s accreditation is updated to include both biological and chemical testing. Additionally, new laboratories are inserted in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, expanding the network of accredited facilities with dual biological and chemical testing capabilities. These changes strengthen India’s food safety infrastructure by enhancing regional testing capacity and ensuring updated, reliable laboratory accreditation. The notification reflects FSSAI’s continued efforts to maintain robust quality standards and improve regulatory oversight in food testing nationwide.
