I am directed to invite your attention to the Board’s Circular No. 39/2004-Customs dated 3.6.2004 and Instructions F.No.450/19/2005-Cus.IV 2nd April, 2009 regarding implementation of the provisions of Phytosanitary requirements under the Plant Quarantine (Regulation of Import into India) Order, 2003.
The Ministry of Corporate Affairs has asked the Registrar of Companies (RoC) to look into alleged accounting discrepancies in five companies, which include Grasim, Adani Exports, Vickers Systems, Gwalior Chemical Industries and Metrochem Industries, CNBC-TV18 reports quoting government sources.
In June 2000, an expert group headed by NIPFP director M Govinda Rao observed that the ‘selective approach to taxation of services is undesirable for this violates neutrality in taxation, leads to inadequate coverage in addition to raising several avoidable procedural and legal complications’. The group recommended that the Centre should move towards a ‘general and comprehensive extension of the tax to cover all services with a small and clearly defined exemption list’.

The Supreme Court (SC) on Wednesday dismissed the Income Tax department’s plea alleging that former Nasscom chief Kiran S Karnik had evaded tax to the tune of Rs 3.71 crore in 2002-03 when he was heading Discovery Networks.The I-T department challenged a Gujarat High Court judgement that had dismissed its appeal holding that Karnik could not be held guilty of even deemed concealment.

The assessee had another unit in Delhi which was engaged in trading and had suffered a loss. The assessee claimed that it was eligible for a deduction u/s 10A
Under section 8(1) of the Central Sales Tax Act 1956 an Interstate sale to a registered dealer can be made at the concessional rate of Central sales tax i.e. @2% existing at this time. But for claiming concessional rate of CST the seller needs to produce a declaration in the prescribed form duly filed and signed by the registered dealer in a prescribed form obtained from a prescribed authority.
