Please refer to the paragraph 27 of the first bi-monthly monetary policy statement for 2016-17. It was indicated therein that RBI will issue draft guidelines on Standardised Approach for measuring counterparty credit risk exposures (SA-CCR) by end-May 2016. This revised method will replace the Current Exposure Method (CEM), presently being used by banks for measuring exposure for counterparty credit risk arising from derivative transactions and will be implemented from April 1, 2017.

Today, I feel proud that we at the Reserve Bank have delivered on all these proposals. A new inflation-focused framework is in place that has helped halve inflation and allowed savers to earn positive real interest rates on deposits after a long time. We have also been able to cut interest rates by 150 basis points after raising them initially.

RBI to simplify & rationalise registration process of new NBFCs

In order to make the process of registration of new NBFCs smoother and hassle free, the application form for registration of new NBFCs and the checklist of documents to be submitted have been revised. The number of documents to be submitted by the NBFC applicants has been reduced from existing set of 45 documents to 7-8 in the revised process.

Repo (Repurchase) rate also known as the benchmark interest rate is the rate at which the RBI lends money to the banks for a short term. When the repo rate increases, borrowing from RBI becomes more expensive. If RBI wants to make it more expensive for the banks to borrow money, it increases the repo rate similarly, if it wants to make it cheaper for banks to borrow money it reduces the repo rate.
