The Reserve Bank of India issued a circular assigning Lead Bank responsibility following the formation of a new district in Gujarat. The Government of Gujarat notified the creation of the Vav-Tharad district through a Gazette notification dated September 24, 2025. Consequent to this administrative reorganisation, the RBI designated Bank of Baroda as the Lead Bank for the newly created Vav-Tharad district under the Lead Bank Scheme. The district has been allotted a new District Working Code, “02U,” to be used for all banking and reporting purposes. The RBI clarified that this assignment is limited to the newly formed district and that there is no change in Lead Bank responsibilities for the remaining districts of Gujarat. The decision ensures continuity in banking coordination, credit planning, and implementation of financial inclusion initiatives at the district level. The circular provides regulatory clarity to banks and stakeholders on institutional responsibility following the creation of a new administrative district.
