The Reserve Bank of India has directed all agency banks to keep their branches dealing with government receipts and payments open for public transactions on March 31, 2026, which is a notified public holiday. The instruction follows a request from the Government of India to ensure that all government-related receipts and payments are properly accounted for within the Financial Year 2025–26 itself. By keeping these branches operational on the last day of the financial year, the measure aims to facilitate timely accounting, prevent spillover of transactions into the next financial year, and ensure accuracy in government books. The circular also requires banks to give adequate publicity so that the public and concerned stakeholders are aware of the availability of banking services on that day. This directive applies specifically to branches handling government business and is intended to support smooth closure of accounts and financial reporting for the year ending March 31, 2026.

All Agency Banks to remain open for public on March 31, 2026 (Tuesday)
The Government of India has made a request to keep all branches of the banks dealing with Government receipts and payments open for transactions on March 31, 2026 (Tuesday-Public Holiday) so as to account for all the Government transactions relating to receipts and payments in the Financial Year 2025-26 itself. Accordingly, Agency Banks are advised to keep all their branches dealing with government business open on March 31, 2026 (Tuesday).
2. Banks shall give due publicity about the availability of above banking services on this day.
