DO No. 48/News Letter/CH(IC)/2024

Dear  Colleague,

“Life is a gift, and it offers us the privilege, opportunity, and responsibility to give something back by becoming more”

With this profound belief, NACIN Zonal Campus, Lucknow, took a step towards empowering the youth against drug abuse through awareness and education. The Drug Awareness Program, organized in a prominent College in Kanpur, comprised of interactive sessions and impactful discussions aimed at targeting the youth. The program shed light on the manipulative tactics employed by drug peddlers, who lure students with free samples, only to trap them in a cycle of addiction and dependency. Tragically, many victims become unwitting participants in these networks, perpetuating the cycle of abuse. Such initiatives emphasize the importance of valuing life as a precious gift and making informed choices to avoid the destructive path of substance abuse.

The importance of awareness and enforcement working hand-in-hand to combat the menace of drug trafficking cannot be overstated. Continuing its fight against smuggling of NDPS substances, the Mumbai Zonal Unit of DRI booked an excellent case last week. Acting on specific intelligence, DRI officers apprehended a passenger arriving from Sierra Leone at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, Mumbai. Upon careful examination of his trolley bag, 3.496 Kg of cocaine was found ingeniously concealed in a false bottom. The seized substance had an illicit market value of Rs. 34.96 crores. The swift action by the team deserves a pat on the back!

In a commendable demonstration of vigilance and commitment to Green Customs, the SIIB officers of Air Cargo Complex (ACC), Bengaluru, successfully intercepted two individuals while attempting to illicitly bring 40 wildlife animals into India, including tortoises, beaded lizards, skinks, iguanas, an albino bat, an agile gibbon, and American alligators.

Till next week!

Yours sincerely,

(Sanjay Kumar Agarwal)
