Maruti Suzuki India Limited, the country’s leading electric vehicle exporter, has announced a significant milestone in its global operations. The company has successfully exported over 50,000 units of its Made-in-India electric vehicles (EVs) since the commencement of international shipments in August 2025. This achievement underscores Maruti Suzuki’s dominant position in the Indian EV export market, accounting for nearly 93% of the nation’s EV exports in the passenger vehicle category during the first half of the fiscal year 2026-27.
The company’s EVs have reached approximately 50 countries, with Europe being the primary destination. Maruti Suzuki’s Managing Director and CEO, Mr. Hisashi Takeuchi, highlighted the company’s journey that began with the production of the e VITARA at the Hansalpur facility in Gujarat. This facility, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, serves as the exclusive manufacturing base for Suzuki’s first global Battery Electric Vehicle and has recently expanded its annual production capacity to 1 million vehicles. This expansion marks it as the first Suzuki facility worldwide to achieve such a capacity at a single location.
Maruti Suzuki’s success in the EV export market is a testament to India’s advanced manufacturing capabilities and competitiveness. The company has been the leading passenger vehicle exporter from India for five consecutive years, maintaining over 50% share of passenger vehicle exports from the country during the April-September period of 2026. The Hansalpur facility plays a crucial role in this success, contributing nearly half of Maruti Suzuki’s overall overseas shipments in the fiscal year 2025-26.
Industry analysts view Maruti Suzuki’s achievements as a reflection of India’s growing influence in the global automotive sector, particularly in the electric vehicle domain. The company’s strategic focus on expanding its production capacity and enhancing its export capabilities positions it well to capitalise on the increasing global demand for electric vehicles. As the market for sustainable mobility continues to grow, Maruti Suzuki’s leadership in EV exports is expected to bolster its standing in the international automotive industry.
