This notification seeks to amend Rules 49 and 173G of Central Excise Rules, 1944 changing the last date of payment of duty in the second fortnight of March.

Notification No. 10 /2001-Central Excise ( N. T.)

G.S.R. (E).- In exercise of the powers conferred by section 37 of the Central Excise Act,1944 (1 of 1944), the Central Government hereby makes the following rules further to amend the Central Excise Rules,1944, namely:-

1. (1) These rules may be called the Central Excise (Fourth Amendment) Rules, 2001.

(2) They shall come into force on and from the 14th day of March, 2001.

2. In rule 49 of the Central Excise Rules, 1944 (hereinafter referred to as the said rules), in sub-rule (1), in clause (a), for sub clause (iii), the following sub-clause shall be substituted, namely:-

” (iii) during the second fortnight of March, by the 31st day of the said March.”.

3. In rule 173G of the said rules, in sub-rule (1), in clause (a), for sub clause (iii), the following sub-clause shall be substituted, namely:-

” (iii) during the second fortnight of March, by the 31st day of the said March.”.

Note: The principal rules were published in the Gazette of India vide notification No. IV D-CE, dated the 28th February, 1944 and was last amended by Ministry of Finance (Department of Revenue) notification No.6/2001-Central Excise (N. T.) dated the 1st March, 2001 vide number GSR 140 (E), dated the 1st March, 2001.
