This notification increases Customs duty on sugar

Notification No. 12/2000-Customs

WHEREAS after careful consideration the Central Government has come to the conclusion that there is an urgent need to regulate the import of sugar;

AND WHEREAS the Central Government is satisfied that the import duty leviable on sugar, falling under Chapter 17 of the first Schedule to the Customs Tariff Act. 1975 ( 51 of 1975 ) should be increased and that circumstances exist which render it necessary to take immediate action;

Now, therefore, in exercise of the posers conferred be sub-section ( 1 ) of section 8A of the said Customs Tariff Act, the Central Government, hereby directs that the First Schedule of the said Customs Tariff Act shall be amended in the following manner, namely:-

In the first Schedule to the said Customs Tariff Act, in Section IV, in Chapter 17, against each of the sub-heading Nos. 1701.11, 1701.12, 1701.91 and 1701.99 occurring in column ( 2 ), for the entry in column ( 4 ) , the entry ” 60% ” shall respectively be substituted.

Note – The First Schedule to the Customs Tariff Act, 1975 ( 51 of 1975 ) was published as a part of the said Customs Tariff Act which was enacted on the 18th August, 1975 and was last amended vide notification No. 127/99-Customs dated the 1st December, 1999 [G.S.R. 793 ( E ), dated the 1st December, 1999].
