Vinit Kumar & Ors. Vs State of U.P. Through Secretary & Ors. (Supreme Court of India)
Unsuccessful Candidates Cannot Reopen A 15-Year-Old Selection By Raising New Grounds—Supreme Court Refuses CBI Probe
Summary: The Supreme Court has dismissed a writ petition challenging the selection of Technician Grade-2 employees in the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited. The Court held that the petitioners could not enlarge the scope of proceedings by raising fresh allegations after having earlier confined their case to the contention that candidates lower in merit had been selected.
The Court also declined to unsettle appointments made more than a decade ago, particularly when the selected candidates were not parties to the proceedings. The request for a CBI investigation was rejected because no specific pleadings or supporting material establishing manipulation or wrongdoing had been placed on record.
